On Wednesday, Real Madrid and Manchester United will play a friendly match in Texas' NRG Stadium in an effort to maintain their perfect preseason record.

The last time these two teams clashed, the Red Devils defeated Los Blancos 2-1 in a friendly in Miami in August 2018 with to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera.

In their first preseason game on Monday, Real Madrid was staring down defeat as Italian powerhouse AC Milan took a 2-0 lead into halftime on the strength of a close-range header from Fikayo Tomori and a miraculous goal from Luka Romero.

Federico Valverde took advantage of a goalkeeping error and a defensive blunder to score twice before Vinicius Junior, wearing his new No. 7 shirt, tucked away the game-winning goal six minutes from time to give Los Blancos a 3-2 victory at the Rose Bowl in California.

Carlo Ancelotti used a 4-4-2 diamond formation against his former club Milan to prepare for life without star striker and Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema. The experiment was successful, and big-money summer signing Jude Bellingham received praise from the Italian manager after making his debut.

Real Madrid finished the previous season with the Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup despite finishing second to Barcelona in the fight for the La Liga championship and falling to eventual champion Manchester City in the Champions League semifinals. Ancelotti is optimistic that his team can launch a real challenge on all fronts in 2023–24, with or without any extra summer additions amid links with players like Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid will compete against La Liga rivals Barcelona in Texas and Juventus in Florida following their matchup with Manchester United, before traveling back to Spain for their August 12 away league match against Athletic Bilbao.

Without giving up a goal, three wins in a row. Erik ten Hag, the manager of Man United, is obviously happy with his team's strong preseason performance after winning friendlies this summer against Leeds United, Lyon, and Arsenal.

The Red Devils defeated Mikel Arteta's team 2-0 in New Jersey last Saturday thanks to goals from newly appointed captain Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho in the first half, before winning 5-3 in a practice penalty shootout. Earlier, they had defeated Leeds and Lyon, respectively, by scores of 2-0 and 1-0.

Ten Hag has challenged his United team to become a "pressing machine" and make the most of the upcoming preseason friendlies. He has also raised the bar for several of the club's highly-rated young players, including Kobbie Mainoo, if they want to compete for a regular spot in the first-team squad.

The goal for Man United this season is to build on their third-place finish in the Premier League last year, which put them 14 points behind champion Manchester City. They also hope to break their six-year trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup in February.
